Division Structure Resource Page

We continue to receive several inquiries about the recent change from a College to a Division.  We're continuing to develop various communication mechanisms to help address all the questions and provide as much information for you.  We've established this page as a resource to capture and answer your inquiries as well as provide as many resources we have available to ensure it's clear what this change means and what it doesn't.

If you have any questions that are not addressed, please feel free to leave them using the comment box below so that we can get you a response.  If you wish to ask and receive your inquiries outside of this platform, you can direct your questions to drodriguez1@email.arizona.edu and responses will be communicated directly to you.

Thank you!

Frequently asked questions

 What does this change mean?

In the short term, there are not many impacts to the work we do in Extension with regard to this change. Structurally, there's been an additional layer added to the entire organization (see Basic Org Chart and Complete Org Chart). But it puts Extension on the same level of CALS as well as the College of Veterinary Medicine.  Other impacts are addressed by Dr. Jeff Silvertooth in his July 24th, 2018 Tuesday Morning Notes in terms of future collaborative opportunities and greater outreach.

Will there be any physical moves for any of Extension's offices (State, County or Tribal)?

No, there are no plans to relocate any of our offices anywhere in the state. Everyone will continue to operate in their current locations.

Are there any changing of positions or adding positions because of this change?

There are no plans to bring on or re-organize Extension personnel because of this change. We will continue to deliver the same quality programs and services across the state that you're accustomed to in the same capacities.

Is Dr. Silvertooth still the Director of Extension?

Yes, Dr. Silvertooth will continue to lead Extension as Director. He will also continue in his role as Associate Dean of Economic Development for CALS and Associate Director of Arizona Experiment Station.

Who do I work for? Do I still work for Extension?

Your reporting structure does not change. If you were an Extension employee, you are still an Extension employee. The division structure does not change or alter and it should not have an impact on your abilities to deliver what you have in the past for Extension.

Is it just the logos that are changing?

On the surface, that will look to be the only change happening. If you need updated logos, see our Marketing Resources Page to obtain them. Down the road, we anticipate some small changes to other language, but that's not confirmed. For example, listing of titles or departments when submitting grants, or generating reports for external audiences, etc. We believe those are still being worked through and when there are updates, we will be happy to share.

How will this impact the UCAP project?

Again, no immediate or known impacts to this project. The UCAP project will move forward as planned. You can find more information about UCAP here: https://ucap.arizona.edu/

How does this impact Specialists or those with split appointments?

Similar to other Extension personnel, there should be no changes to what you're working on for Extension programming. If we hear of anything that might impact "split-appointment personnel," we'll be sure to put together a series of communication mechanisms to address.

How will this impact our budgets, if at all?

There are no expected changes to how budgets are facilitated. Also, there are no expected changes to any "money-in, money-out" procedures. Extension budgets should continue to operate as they have. If you have questions about your budgets or anything fiscally-related, please reach out to Extension's Business Office team at azcebus@email.arizona.edu.

Will I still have the ability to submit pubs and have them peer reviewed by other CALS faculty if I'm not part of CALS, per se?

Absolutely! You are strongly encouraged to continue to submit publications for peer review through Extension's FastTrack portal. We will still have the same personnel with the same expertise within the same disciplines under the Division umbrella and can still rely on each other to provide peer reviews on publications.

I keep seeing the term 'ALVSCE' around. What does that mean?

ALVSCE is an acronym which means "Division of Agricultural, Life & Veterinary Sciences & Cooperative Extension." It's not an official term, but many have adopted it to quickly refer to the "Division." When you see "ALVSCE" mentioned somewhere, or hear someone say it, they're probably referring to the newly-designed Division.

Given the changes, will this force us to alter our affirmative action statement/legal disclaimer?

Yes, the statement has been updated to capture the name of the new Division. You can see the latest statement on our Legal Disclaimer / Non-Discrimination Statement page.

Where can I get more information about this change?

We will continue to populate this page with information as it becomes available. These are other ways of submitting your inquiries about the Division Structure:
