Your coverage remains the same, but the way benefit deductions are billed in your paycheck will change.  Nine-month benefits eligible employees pay extra benefit deductions in the Spring semester to cover benefits during the summer months when not being paid (called a pre-collect).  Because you are an existing employee making this continuing to tenure move off the normal cycle, the process for Summer 2024 is different.  If you choose to move to a nine-month contract you will receive two contracts: one effective July of 2024 as a fiscal contract covering July and part of August and another contract effective August 19, 2024, transferring you to the new academic contract.  This ensures no loss of benefits.

This is for all nine-month employees who are paid on a nine-month schedule.  Employees who choose a nine-month schedule paid out over twelve months will see their benefits deductions remain the same throughout the calendar year.

No, you are not required to switch to nine-month appointment. You may elect to remain with a twelve-month faculty appointment.

No, once you elect to transition to a nine-month academic appointment, you cannot return to a twelve-month fiscal appointment. This is a one-time decision.

Your choice needs to be communicated to Extension Administration by March 1, 2024.  Please see the email from Dr. Edward Martin dated 2/8/2024 for details.
