Extension Internal Funding Guidelines

Extension Internal Funding Guidelines

Support for Salary, Capital Equipment, Operations, Programmatic Needs, Professional Development, Sponsorships, and Facility Safety Improvements

Faculty with Extension appointments may request internal funding to support a wide range of activities that enhance program delivery, professional growth, and operational effectiveness. This document outlines eligibility, funding categories, and the process for submitting requests.

Extension Funding Guidelines

Faculty with Extension appointments are eligible to request funding to support the following categories:

  • Salary (e.g., temporary project-based support)

  • Capital Equipment (e.g., essential equipment purchases for program delivery)

  • Operations (e.g., supplies, services, and technology support)

  • Programmatic (e.g., materials, curricula, incentives)

  • Professional Development (e.g., travel, training, educational materials, up to $1000 per fiscal year)

  • Sponsorship (e.g., support for events hosted by collaborators or partners)

  • Facility Safety Feature/Upgrade (e.g., minor repairs or improvements to ensure safe program delivery)

Funds are limited. Priority will be given to junior faculty at the Assistant or continuing eligible level, as well as proposals that demonstrate direct impact on Extension programs or address emerging critical needs. Requests should clearly show how the funding will support Extension outcomes.

Eligibility and Use Guidelines

  • Funds must directly support professional Extension work.

  • For professional development requests, priority is given to individuals presenting, organizing, or participating in a professional capacity (e.g., speaker, panelist, committee member).

  • For other categories, the proposal must explain how the request supports Extension’s mission, clientele, or statewide priorities.

Application Process
All requests must be submitted using the following form:
Extension Funding Request Form

The request must include:

  • A brief description of the purpose and justification

  • Relevant dates and itemized cost estimates

  • Any matching funds or in-kind contributions (if applicable)

Requests must be approved by the appropriate County Director or Department Head prior to submission to the relevant Associate Director. Final approval rests with Extension Administration. There is no carry-over of funds between fiscal years or beyond the scope of the proposed activity.

Special Note for Programmatic Funding:
Program funds may be available for multi-county or statewide initiatives that address emerging or critical issues. These proposals require approval from the appropriate Unit Head and the Associate Director in the relevant program area.
